The Child Care Consultant:
Works with providers and the Department of Human Services to promote and better facilitate the registration of Child Development Homes. Provides technical assistance, assessment and on site consultation to assist early childhood professionals in meeting and maintaining state guidelines and regulations.* Works with providers to establish and maintain stimulating and nurturing learning environments. Works with providers and the Child Care Nurse Consultant to establish and maintain healthy and safe early learning environments.* Models and supports developmentally appropriate practice to ensure positive adult-child interactions and learning experiences. Promotes provider and industry professionalism through basic business practices training, parent and community awareness efforts, and advocacy. Serves not only as a resource for early childhood educators and community human service organizations, but as a liaison between them.* Collaborates with other early care and education agencies to best serve providers, families and the community.* Encourages providers to offer special needs, non-traditional hour, and infant care. Puts early care professionals in touch with each other and works with them to develop an infrastructure and support system.
The Child Care Home Evaluator:
Using the Department of Human Services Guidelines for Child Development Homes, establishes annual individual compliance rates by conducting unannounced evaluations of EVERY registered provider in the designated area. Re-evaluates providers on a regular basis until complete compliance is achieved. Identifies the compliance needs of providers and works with the child care consultant and other agencies in order for them to best be met. Consults and collaborates with invested local agency representatives and other home evaluators to Interpret, better define and/or establish the parameters of the mandated DHS guidelines.

Child Care Nurse Consultants:
The Child Care Nurse Consultant program supports three (3) Empowerment goals: 1) Healthy Children 2) Children Ready to Succeed in School 3) Secure and Nurturing Child Care Environments
Child Care Health Consultants are Registered Nurses serving Calhoun, Pocahontas and Webster Counties using performance measures and annual performance standards required by Healthy Child Care Iowa. Healthy Child Care Iowa is part of a national campaign - Healthy Child Care America - to improve access to health and safety information and resources for child care providers and families they serve. Child Care Health Consultants will bring health and safety consultation, technical assistance, and training to child care providers to meet the needs of the child care provider and children in their care. Child care providers will have the opportunity to meet, and exceed, minimum DHS compliance requirements in health and safety(Code of Iowa, Chapter 237A and IAC Chapter 441-110) for child care registration. Additional program benefits to providers are: 1) Completion of Child Care Health and Safety checklists 2) Assistance and monitoring of providers progress toward correcting health and safety issues identified by the checklists 3) mini-grants for providers who need improvements in health supplies and child care equipment Healthy Child Care Iowa is sponsored and supported by the Iowa Department of Human Services and the Iowa Department of Public Health.
