Community Partnerships for Protecting Children is a program that works with the state or county child protection agency, local residents, community organizations, and public agencies to adopt clear goals to improve the lives of children and families.

Linking Families and Communities helps these goals be achieved by offering grants to communities/programs to better help the families and children in their areas, by creating activities that families can do together.

The seven Communities/Programs awarded grants during the FY07 year were:

-Athletics For Education and Success - Fort Dodge ($1,200)
AFES has created the "Bling Program" which is a
comprehensive approach to help minority and
at-risk youth of Fort Dodge, by providing in
school, after school, weekend, and out of
school programming.

- SOAR - Pocahontas ($1,725)
Pocahontas has much in store for their grant money.
They will be offering 3 programs:After school activities
for third grade students, A safety program concerning
first aid will be offered to at-risk Pocahontas County
families, and "Challenge", a team building program for
7th graders.

- Bulter's BLAST Program - Fort Dodge ($1,200)
This after school program is staffed by teachers to help
assist students with homework completion, Reading and
Math enrichment, structured recreational activities, open
computer lab time, and teacher developed enrichment
units.

- JJ Hands Library - Lohrville ($1,725)
The library will provide a summer activity for the
unsupervised youth in the community, and also
provide activities in the winter months to stimulate the
children physically and to fight the rising obesity trends
by providing supervision at the local community center.

- Moms Off Meth(MOM) - Fort Dodge ($1,725)
This group provides a weekly support group for
mothers seeking help in the community for their
addiction to Meth. They offer safe, quality child
care for the children during the meeting,and
are helping to improve the mothers' parenting skill's
by addressing topics about behavioral issues. And
lastly, they are empowering these mothers by
providing a support system for them to address issues
involving domestic and sexual violence, and how to
become more responsible parents and become more
self sufficient.

- City of Rolfe ($1,200)
This community plans to have various activities including:
a "Read to Patti" after school Program, Float and Flick
nights at the community pool, and provide pool passes
to in need families.

-Upper Des Moines Opportunity - Ft. Dodge
($1,725)
This program will be hosting a Back to School night where
they will give out backpacks with school supplies to the
children. Also various agencies will be in attendance to
give out information about what their jobs involve and in
what ways they can help the community.
